The lockdown and social distancing that the government implemented to contain the COVID-19 pandemic was close to shutting down Nigeria’s economy, the federal government stated on Sunday.
In a capacity building program for Special advisers and Technical Assistants for Ministers, the Minister of Finance, Budget and national planning said the government will experience revenue decline in the third quarter of the year.
She said the first quarter had a 65% decline in projected revenue.
The minister said “We anticipate that these challenges will continue into the third quarter".
