The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the current economic mayhem, which has led to many failed businesses and massive relocation of offices caused by the gruelling traffic gridlock in Apapa, Lagos State, is one clear indication of the failure of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
But his political opponent, People's Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje posited that the Lagos State Government must not wait for the federal government to fix the bottlenecks at the port.
In an interactive forum organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Ambode explained that the traffic gridlock is a fall-out of the inefficiency of the federal government controlled by the PDP.
"Of all the whole roads we have in Lagos State, 117 of those roads actually belong to the federal government of which the Apapa expressway is one of them. There is nothing the APC government has not done to make businesses thrive in that axis.
Each time we try to relocate the tankers to ease traffic, we face bottlenecks and frustrations from the federal government," he said.
He said going forward, APC has created additional seaports in Lekki and Badagry to decongest the traffic situation hindering business growth in the country.
In his response, the governorship candidate, People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Jimi Agbaje said the Lagos State Government must not wait for the federal government to fix the bottlenecks at the port, and called for a strong partnership between the state and federal government to put the rail system back to order.
